Agios Vasileios (Crete) Fire Damage Assessments Launched

A major wildfire devastated the municipality of Agios Vasileios in the Rethymno region of Crete, causing extensive damage to the primary sector, residential buildings, businesses and municipal infrastructure. Mayor Giannis Tatarakis met with Nikos Kakavas, president of the Pan‑Hellenic Federation of Geotechnical Public Employees (POGEDY), and Deputy Regional Governor Maria Lioni to coordinate the response. Regional committees began on‑site inspections and damage recordings, stressing the need for swift, comprehensive documentation to enable prompt aid for affected residents and producers. All involved services pledged full cooperation to accelerate technical support and recovery efforts.
