Agios Vasileios Municipality announces wildfire relief measures

The Municipality of Agios Vasileios in Rethymno has announced three major support measures to assist citizens and the local economy following recent devastating wildfires.

First, the municipality is facilitating financial aid through AROGI for the restoration or replacement of household goods. Eligible residents whose primary residences were damaged can apply for up to 6,000 euros, with the exact amount determined by household size, the extent of damage, and home size. Applications are accepted from August 20, 2024, through September 1, 2026.

Second, an emergency grant of 600 euros per affected household will be provided to cover immediate basic needs. This amount increases by 600 euros for large families and by an additional 600 euros for households containing a person with a disability.

Third, a special Pass will be introduced to stimulate tourism and support local businesses in the fire-affected regions, aiming to mitigate the economic impact during the ongoing tourist season. Mayor Giannis Tatarakis emphasized that the municipality's efforts continue beyond fire suppression to ensure the full recovery of those affected.
