Agoda reports rising travel interest in Japan and Indonesia for 2026

Agoda released 2026 travel‑search data showing a 12% increase in domestic travel interest among Japanese users during the August Obon holiday. Yokohama recorded the strongest growth at 17%, with Nagoya and Osaka each up 15% and other major cities such as Tokyo, Fukuoka and Sendai rising 10%. Overseas, Japanese travelers showed a 13% rise in searches for short‑haul Asian destinations, led by Pattaya (+18%) and Seoul (+17%), while Bangkok, Da Nang, Cebu Island and Taipei each grew 12‑13%.

Separately, Agoda’s analysis of inbound travel interest to Indonesia for the first half of 2026 identified China as the fastest‑growing source market (+44% year‑on‑year), followed by Malaysia (+18%) and Singapore (+17%). Bali remained the top destination, while Jakarta, Batam, Lombok and Bandung were also highly searched. Emerging spots such as Sukabumi surged 4.6‑fold, and Manado and Gorontalo grew roughly three‑fold, reflecting broader regional curiosity about Indonesia’s diverse offerings.
