Agoda reports surge in Japanese searches for cool‑weather summer spots

Agoda Company Pte. Ltd., a Singapore‑based digital travel platform, says Japanese travelers are increasingly searching for domestic cool‑weather destinations for late summer 2026.

Searches for Tateshina Highlands rose 277%, Furano 229%, Yuzawa 202%, Karuizawa 161% and Matsumoto/Kamikochi 133%, reflecting a “cool‑cation” trend to escape heat and enjoy cooler climates, nature, hot springs and local cuisine. The data compare searches made between January and March 2026 for April‑June check‑ins with those made between April and June 2026 for July‑September check‑ins.
