Agosto Dourado campaign promotes breastfeeding across Brazil
The Agosto Dourado campaign is currently promoting the importance of breastfeeding across various regions in Brazil. The initiative, which uses gold to symbolize the high quality of breast milk, aims to strengthen support networks for mothers and increase breastfeeding rates to meet global targets set by the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF.
Health authorities emphasize that exclusive breastfeeding is recommended for the first six months of life. Beyond nutrition, breast milk provides essential antibodies and immune support that help protect infants against respiratory infections, diarrhea, and allergies. Experts note that breastfeeding also offers long-term health benefits for children, including a reduced risk of obesity and type 2 diabetes.
Local health units are implementing diverse support measures, such as establishing dedicated breastfeeding rooms in family health units, creating milk collection points, and offering home visits to assist new mothers. These efforts are designed to help women balance professional lives with breastfeeding and to provide technical guidance on milk storage and expression.
