South American vascular and breastfeeding health campaigns

Overview

In late July 2026 Brazil’s Sociedade Brasileira de Angiologia e Cirurgia Vascular launched the August Blue and Red campaign, a month‑long effort to raise awareness of vascular diseases and stroke. The initiative emphasized lifestyle measures—blood‑pressure control, diet, exercise, smoking cessation—and urged rapid medical response to stroke symptoms. A few days later, on 3 August, the campaign was extended to Argentina, where local authorities and business groups introduced “Agosto Azul” with a focus on men’s health, adding free PSA testing, broader health screenings and vaccinations while still promoting vascular‑health education. Municipal health authorities across Brazil layered additional actions. São Gonçalo and other cities promoted the national “Agosto Dourado” breastfeeding drive, Araras distributed kits to pregnant women, and Pato Bragado offered PSA, HIV, hepatitis and cardiovascular screenings for men. A nationwide “Agosto Azul e Vermelho” component targeted women over 40 with education on vascular health, menopause‑related risks and lifestyle measures. On 4 August, the “Agosto Dourado” campaign intensified in Distrito Federal, Cerro Branco, Maceió, Porto Velho and Belo Horizonte, providing prenatal counseling, lactation guidance and community‑based support groups. New reports on 4 August show the breastfeeding programme expanding nationwide. Coordinators in Distrito Federal run workshops, information portals and donor‑milk banks; Maceió’s public milk banks supplied 1,229 L of donor milk between May 2022 and July 2026. Porto Velho offers continuous prenatal to post‑partum guidance, Cerro Branco joined the effort, Chapecó’s Hospital Regional do Oeste organised month‑long talks and support groups, and Francisco Beltrão launched a municipal incentive campaign with a photography contest. The same day, the national “Agosto Dourado” campaign added activities in Várzea Grande, where health secretariats hold lectures and dynamic sessions in basic health units.
