Agrani Bank officials arrested for embezzling millions in Munshiganj
Six individuals, including bank officials and security personnel, have been arrested in connection with the embezzlement of customer funds at the Shrinagar branch of Agrani Bank in Munshiganj. The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and local police are involved in the investigation.
Preliminary findings by the ACC have confirmed the misappropriation of approximately 89.4 million BDT. The suspects allegedly used fraudulent FDRs, forged checks, and fake deposit slips to siphon money by altering account information. While the ACC has confirmed evidence of 89.4 million BDT stolen, some complainants claim the total amount embezzled exceeds 250 million BDT.
The arrested individuals include cash officer Md. Shahiduzzaman, bank officials Md. Jinnah Hossain, Rezaul Huq, and Md. Sharif Uddin, as well as security guards Ranju Ahmed and Abdul Hai. All have been temporarily suspended. The investigation is ongoing, with the ACC working to identify the full extent of the impact, which is estimated to affect over 200 to 300 customers.
