Mozambique to incubate 1,000 agribusiness entrepreneurs annually

The Mozambican government aims to incubate at least 1,000 agribusiness entrepreneurs annually through a new programme scheduled for launch in 2026. Announced by Minister of Agriculture, Environment and Fisheries Roberto Mito Albino in Maputo, the initiative seeks to transition subsistence agriculture into a sector capable of generating significant income and employment.

The programme is designed to involve the private sector and producers' associations rather than relying solely on state structures. It will focus on providing technical training, management skills, and mentoring to help entrepreneurs build sustainable businesses across various value chains.

To support financing, the government is collaborating with the development finance institution GAPI to facilitate credit access for producers, while also encouraging participation from commercial banks. Minister Albino also emphasized the need for specialized producer associations in areas such as seed production, horticulture, rice, and agricultural mechanization.
