Mozambique industrial and infrastructure development
Overview
Mozambique is pursuing various strategies to bolster its industrial capacity and infrastructure. The government has actively sought foreign capital, specifically targeting the United Arab Emirates to drive economic diversification in sectors such as natural resources, agriculture, and technology. During the AIM Congress 2026, officials met with UAE-based investors to discuss strategic partnerships aimed at job creation and value chain development.
Domestic industrial activity is also seeing movement, with Cimentos de Moçambique committing approximately $150 million to modernize cement production facilities in Nacala, Dondo, and Matola. This expansion aims to increase national clinker production and reduce import dependency.
Concurrently, the country faces significant infrastructure needs in the water sector. The rehabilitation of the Moamba Major and Mapai dams is estimated to require $1.5 billion in funding, which has not yet been secured. These projects are considered strategic for ensuring the water supply for Greater Maputo and improving climate resilience.
