Brazil agribusiness credit hits R$ 28.2 billion in July

Brazil's agribusiness sector saw significant credit activity in mid-2026. In July, the first month of the 2026/27 harvest, corporate agriculture contracted R$ 28.2 billion in rural credit. A major portion of this, R$ 18.8 billion (66.6%), was driven by Rural Product Notes (CPR). The South region led concessions with R$ 3.6 billion, followed by the Southeast and Midwest.

Separately, BNDES reported a historic milestone, approving R$ 24.8 billion in credit for the agricultural sector during the first half of 2026. This represents a 430% increase compared to the same period in 2022. BNDES president Aloizio Mercadante noted that credit cooperatives also played a strategic role, approving R$ 10.3 billion to reach rural areas where traditional banking is less present.

In regional developments, the company Agrovale in Bahia received R$ 53.99 million from BNDES to modernize irrigation and biomass energy systems, aiming for higher water and energy efficiency in the semi-arid region.
