Czech Republic faces agricultural losses and rising debt
The Czech Republic is facing significant economic and agricultural challenges due to severe drought. The Agrarian Chamber expects a turnover loss of approximately 20 billion CZK for the agricultural sector this year. Specifically, basic grain production is projected to drop to 6.3 million tons, a 17.5 percent decrease compared to the previous year, while rapeseed production is expected to fall by about 25 percent.
In response, the Czech government is implementing water management measures. The government is allocating more than 20 billion CZK through various departments to support infrastructure, including the connection of water systems, the construction of small reservoirs, and irrigation support. Additionally, a 3.8 billion CZK aid package is being prepared to assist farmers directly affected by the drought conditions.
Separately, the Ministry of Finance projects that the national debt-to-GDP ratio will rise to nearly 46 percent by the end of the year.
