Agricultural Fair Initiatives in Argentina and Costa Rica Promote Sustainability

In San Juan province, Argentina, the Feria Agroproductiva will host a new edition of the "Cambio Verde" program on 8 August, featuring more than 130 local producers offering vegetables, eggs, olives, wines, sweets, plants and other regional products. The event includes a recycling exchange where participants can trade electronic waste for vouchers or bio‑fertilizers, a mobile vaccination unit, a SUBE point, a citrus winter campaign and a book‑distribution activity, all aimed at strengthening direct marketing circuits and circular‑economy practices.

Separately, over 40 producers and fair representatives from Alajuelay and Heredia received training to reduce food losses and improve product presentation, photography, and customer service. The workshop, part of the FAO‑Brazil South‑South Cooperation program "Sistemas Agroalimentarios Sostenibles," also covered basic Excel skills and labor rights. Oldemar Villalobos Campos, president of the Regional Committee of Farmer Fairs, highlighted the practical benefits for local entrepreneurs. The training seeks to boost incomes, enhance access to fresh local foods and support community economies across the region.
