Latin America agricultural fair initiatives

Entities: Oldemar Villalobos Campos · Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) · Costa Rica · Feria Agroproductiva · San Juan Province

Overview

In mid‑July 2026 Panama announced a schedule of agro‑ferias across several provinces, offering staple foods at low prices and outlining large trade exhibitions for 2027. The announcements referenced a UN‑FAO proposal to mobilise free‑zone sites worldwide to boost agro‑industrial production and highlighted the high food‑waste levels in Mexico’s Chiapas state.

A few weeks later, in early August 2026, comparable fair‑based programmes were reported in Argentina’s San Juan province and Costa Rica’s Alajuelay and Heredia regions. The Argentine Feria Agroproductiva featured the “Cambio Verde” program with over 130 local producers and introduced recycling exchanges, mobile health services and other circular‑economy measures. In Costa Rica, FAO‑Brazil South‑South Cooperation training helped producers reduce food losses, improve product presentation and develop marketing skills.

Together the snapshots illustrate a growing emphasis across Latin America on using agricultural fairs and related training to promote food security, waste reduction and sustainable, circular supply chains.
