Agricultural firms in Argentina face labor and financial crises

Agricultural and poultry companies in Argentina are facing significant labor and financial crises. Granja Tres Arroyos is experiencing a deepening crisis that has led to layoffs across various plants in Entre Ríos and Buenos Aires provinces. Mario López, general secretary of the UATRE Concepción del Uruguay branch, reported that 75 layoffs occurred in Buenos Aires, with further job losses affecting incubation plants and other facilities. The company is attempting a debt reorganization to avoid bankruptcy, but the plan remains stalled due to a lack of interested buyers. The company's financial deterioration has been attributed to avian flu, export restrictions, loss of credit, and competition from imported poultry.

Separately, the agribusiness firm Granel Sur is facing labor unrest in the province of Buenos Aires. Employees have reported months of unpaid wages, specifically citing outstanding salaries for June and July as well as unpaid mid-year bonuses. Labor unions, including URGARA, Camioneros, and Comercio, have escalated the dispute to the Buenos Aires Ministry of Labor to seek a resolution for the affected workers.
