Turkey agricultural sectors report diverse harvest trends and crop shifts

Various agricultural sectors in Turkey are entering new harvest seasons with mixed outlooks. In İzmir, the olive harvest has commenced in the Dikili district, marking the start of the 2026-2027 season.

In the Trakya region, specifically Edirne, canola has emerged as a highly profitable alternative to sunflower. Due to previous heat and drought issues, planting areas for canola doubled to 100,000 decares, with yields averaging around 400 kilograms per decare.

In Manisa, grape producers are facing uncertainty as they await price announcements from the Toprak Mahsulleri Ofisi (TMO). Despite high yields, farmers expressed concern over rising costs and market volatility.

Other notable developments include a significant 100 million lira support package for the fig research institute in Aydın to improve quality and analysis. Additionally, in Bursa, sugar bean production has expanded from a 1-decare experiment to 1,000 decares, becoming a successful alternative crop for local farmers.
