Agricultural markets face price surges in Spain and export declines in Argentina
Agricultural markets are experiencing significant shifts in both pricing and export volumes. In Spain, the National Statistics Institute (INE) reported that the price of cultivated vegetables, such as tomatoes, cucumbers, and peppers, surged by 18.5% over the last month and 17.3% annually. Fresh berries have seen a substantial annual price increase of 47.4%. While some items like sugar and cereals have decreased in price, food inflation remains a notable factor in the consumer price index.
In Argentina, the fruit industry in the Río Negro and Neuquén regions is facing a decline in exports due to pollination issues and hail damage. Apple exports between January and September fell by 41% compared to the previous year, dropping from 74,288 to 43,725 tons. This decline is particularly sharp in key markets like Brazil, where shipments fell by 53%, and the United States, which saw a 70% reduction. Conversely, exports to Canada and Peru showed growth during the same period.
