Agricultural markets in Brazil face mixed trends in rice and egg sectors
In Rio Grande do Sul, rice producers are maintaining firm prices despite limited market liquidity. The price for paddy rice (58% to 62% whole grain) closed at R$ 84.05 per bag, remaining stable week-over-week and up 47.09% compared to the same period in 2025. While producers are resisting broad discounts by limiting supply, industrial buyers remain cautious due to working capital preservation and difficulties in passing costs to retail.
In the egg market, prices are declining across all Cepea-monitored regions due to weakened demand and reduced sales volumes. While some regions report controlled stocks, others face concerns regarding rising inventory at farms. Additionally, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock declared a zoosanitary emergency in four municipalities near Nova Itaberaba, Santa Catarina, following a Newcastle disease case in a commercial turkey farm. Consequently, Mexico and Chile have imposed restrictions on Brazilian poultry imports, though experts expect minimal impact on the domestic egg market.
