Brazilian rice market trends

Overview

The Brazilian rice market has transitioned from a period of stabilization to one of firm pricing despite limited liquidity. In late September, the market saw price stability driven by restricted commercial supply and expectations for the upcoming harvest. During this time, the trade balance shifted to a surplus of approximately 6,400 tons of paddy rice, and the National Supply Company (Conab) initiated electronic auctions to purchase up to 96,400 tons of rice from the 2025/26 harvest.

By late October, rice producers in Rio Grande do Sul were maintaining firm prices, with paddy rice closing at R$ 84.05 per bag. This represents a significant increase of 47.09% compared to the same period in 2025. While producers have resisted broad discounts by limiting supply, industrial buyers have remained cautious due to difficulties in passing costs to retail and the need to preserve working capital.
