Agricultural markets shift as US grain prices fall and Colombian coffee production drops
Agricultural markets have seen significant shifts due to updated production forecasts and climate factors. In the United States, a USDA report indicating an increase in corn harvest yields led to a 4.5% drop in corn prices in Chicago. Wheat prices also saw a decline, falling 2.5% in Chicago for December delivery, as market participants liquidated short positions.
In Colombia, the coffee sector experienced a 15% reduction in production for the coffee year spanning October 2025 to September 2026. The Federación Nacional de Cafeteros reported a total of 12.65 million 60kg bags, a decrease of 2.22 million bags compared to the previous year. This decline is attributed to the El Niño phenomenon and related climate challenges. Consequently, coffee exports also fell by 12% during the same period.
