Agricultural ministers launch new food security initiatives in Congo and Burkina Faso

Agricultural officials in the Congo and Burkina Faso are implementing new initiatives to bolster food security and economic diversification.

In the Bumba territory of Mongala province, Minister of State for Agriculture Muhindo Nzangi inspected an 800-hectare rice program in Wasalaka, where 50 hectares have already been planted. Additionally, in Yamisiko, the ministry launched the distribution of cocoa, coffee, and oil palm seedlings to diversify the local agricultural economy.

In Burkina Faso, Minister of State Ismaël Sombié conducted a tour of the Nakambé region, visiting Tenkodogo and Koupéla to engage with rural stakeholders. Following successful results from the initial agro-pastoral offensive, the government is launching a second phase for 2026-2028. This phase aims to consolidate progress in sectors such as maize, rice, fish, livestock, poultry, potatoes, and wheat, while adding a new focus on hydraulic development.
