Overview

African nations are implementing various social and agricultural strategies to enhance food security and economic development.

In Burkina Faso, a national gender strategy for 2026–2030 has been validated to reduce inequalities, while in Chad, efforts are underway to integrate agricultural statistics from refugee-hosting areas into the national system. Gabon is pursuing food sovereignty through plans to increase the agricultural sector's GDP contribution, including a poultry emergency plan to end broiler chicken imports by 2027. Senegal is utilizing digital technology to modernize its sector, while recent efforts in Senegal have also focused on a new mechanism to coordinate harvest sales. In the Congo, Minister of State for Agriculture Muhindo Nzangi inspected an 800-hectare rice program in the Bumba territory of Mongala province, where 50 hectares have been planted. The ministry also launched a seedling distribution program for cocoa, coffee, and oil palm in Yamisiko to diversify the local economy.

In Burkina Faso, following an initial agro-pastoral offensive, the government is launching a second phase for 2026–2028. This phase seeks to consolidate progress in sectors including maize, rice, fish, livestock, poultry, potatoes, and wheat, while introducing a new focus on hydraulic development.

In Cameroon, the government is seeking partners to fund the 23.2 billion FCFA Kaélé Agro-industrial Complex (CIAK) in the Far North region. Once operational, the site is intended to process 73,000 tonnes of raw materials annually, including sorghum, maize, onions, and meat.
