Agricultural producers in Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina seek improved conditions
In Croatia, Marijana Petir, President of the Parliamentary Agriculture Committee, has emphasized the potential of the country's goat and sheep farming sectors. Speaking at a meeting in Novalja, Petir highlighted the need for better working conditions, addressing challenges such as rising costs, climate change, and pest damage. She specifically called for animal health protection measures to be more responsive to real-world epidemiological situations to avoid unnecessary production limits, and noted the need for institutional solutions regarding wool disposal.
In Bosnia and Herzegovina, representatives from six agricultural associations and cooperatives have issued ten demands to protect the domestic market and improve rural living standards. Key requests include the implementation of a differentiated VAT rate on agricultural inputs—similar to EU practices—and the establishment of conditions for meat exports to the European Union by January 1, 2027. The producers are also calling for an automatic mechanism to introduce protective measures based on market indicators such as import volumes, domestic production, and pricing.
