Agricultural research focuses on soybean yields and environmental footprint tools

Researchers are advancing agricultural efficiency and sustainability through new studies and international digital tools. In Argentina, a study by the Universidad Nacional de Rosario (UNR) identified key management adjustments for producers transitioning from first-season to second-season soybean crops. The research found that reducing row spacing for second-season soybeans can increase yields by 26% due to a higher number of grains, whereas changes in genotype and planting density showed less significant impact.

On an international scale, the SUSTAINCrop project is developing a digital tool to measure the environmental footprint of crops such as corn, canola, soybean, sugarcane, cotton, and sunflower. Funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe program, this 36-month initiative connects scientists from Latin America and Europe. The project is coordinated by the Hungarian consultancy INNOMINE and involves participation from institutions in Argentina, Guatemala, Colombia, Denmark, Greece, Germany, Belgium, and Spain. The goal is to provide farmers and policymakers with data-driven insights for producing raw materials for bio-based industries.
