Agricultural technical assistance programs support Brazilian family farmers

Technical assistance initiatives in Brazil are working to strengthen family farming through direct field visits and production guidance. In Cuiabá, the Municipal Secretariat of Agriculture conducted visits to the Santa Tereza community to identify local demands, improve soil management, and assist with crop diversification involving products such as banana, turmeric, cassava, and pepper.

These efforts aim to integrate small-scale producers into government procurement programs, including the Food Acquisition Program (PAA) and the National School Feeding Program (PNAE), to ensure consistent market access and stable pricing.

In Jaraguari, the Agency for Agrarian Development and Rural Extension (Agraer) is providing similar support to help farmers transition from single-crop systems to diversified production. Technical guidance has assisted producers in managing crops like passion fruit, cucumber, eggplant, and green beans, while also helping them move from selling to intermediaries to negotiating directly with consumers.
