Agrigento launches ‘Naturalmente Agrigento’ green tourism project
The Municipality of Agrigento has launched ‘Naturalmente Agrigento’, a tourism valorization project designed to promote slow and sustainable travel. The initiative aims to transform the city into a green destination that can be enjoyed year-round by connecting the Valley of the Temples with the city, coastline, and natural trails.
Funded by a 2022 Ministry of Tourism grant for UNESCO-linked sites and implemented in collaboration with CoopCulture, the project includes a series of events from September 4 to 6, featuring talks, workshops, environmental actions, and concerts. Mayor Michele Sodano announced that the administration intends to plant 10,000 trees before the end of his mandate and plans to develop a cycle-pedestrian path along the Rupe Atenea forest trail.
As part of the launch, the organization Plastic Free will lead a beach cleanup at the Dune area. The project seeks to move away from ‘hit-and-run’ tourism in favor of a more conscious approach that integrates local food, wine, culture, and the environment.
