Agro-Biogas launches Poland’s first agricultural biomethane plant
Three dairy farms in the Mazovian region of Poland have launched Agro-Biogas, the country’s first agricultural biomethane plant to inject gas directly into the high-pressure national distribution network. Located in Komorów, the facility utilizes agricultural waste, specifically manure and slurry from approximately 1,600 dairy cows, to produce renewable gas.
The plant has an installed capacity of 1 MW and is expected to produce approximately 20,000 MWh of biomethane annually. The project was initiated by local farmers who decided to build and own the installation themselves rather than hosting a third-party facility.
Axpo Polska, a minority shareholder in the plant, has signed a 20-year off-take agreement with the majority owner, Agro-Biogas. Under this contract, Axpo Polska will be responsible for the sale of the biomethane and associated guarantees of origin, covering physical trading and settlement mechanisms.
