Agroseguro to pay 17 million euros for Valencia persimmon crop damage
Agroseguro has estimated that indemnities for damage to persimmon crops in Valencia will reach 17 million euros. The compensation follows a severe hailstorm and thermal burst that occurred on August 20, 2026.
The weather event affected approximately 2,400 hectares, primarily located in the Ribera del Júcar region. To expedite the process, about twenty expert adjusters have been deployed to the field to complete assessments within a couple of weeks. In cases where damage is deemed nearly total, the claim process may be finalized after a single inspection to accelerate payments.
In the Valencian Community, persimmon insurance covers roughly 80% of production, protecting about 12,000 hectares per season with insured capital exceeding 130 million euros. Agroseguro noted that insurance has been vital due to high loss rates in recent years caused by storms and extreme weather events.
