ahamo expands services with reused Android phones and increased data

NTT Docomo’s online-only mobile plan, ahamo, is expanding its service offerings through both hardware availability and data capacity increases. As of September 2, the service has begun offering reused Android smartphones, including the Google Pixel 8a, Galaxy S24, and Galaxy A55 5G. These devices are available in various condition grades, with discounts available for new contracts or switchers via the 5G WELCOME discount.

In addition to hardware changes, ahamo has implemented a strategy of increasing monthly data allowances while maintaining its monthly price of 2,970 yen. The data capacity was increased from 20GB to 30GB in October 2024, and is scheduled to increase from 30GB to 40GB in August 2026. This approach aims to increase user satisfaction and reduce churn by providing more value without altering the price point, a move analysts suggest is a rational method to manage long-term revenue and user retention.
