NTT Docomo ahamo service expansions
Overview
NTT Docomo has implemented a strategy for its online-only mobile plan, ahamo, to increase data capacity while maintaining a fixed monthly price of ¥2,970. Following a previous increase from 20GB to 30GB in October 2024, the data allowance was raised from 30GB to 40GB in August 2026. A similar 10GB increase was applied to the larger “big-size” option, raising it from 110GB to 120GB.
Company executives stated these changes serve as a trial to observe customer usage patterns as data-intensive services like gaming and video streaming grow. The service has also expanded its hardware offerings to include reused Android smartphones, such as the Google Pixel 8a and Galaxy S24, to further increase user value and retention.
