Şahinbey Municipality distributes 2,000 tons of subsidized fertilizer

Şahinbey Municipality in Gaziantep has distributed 2,000 tons of fertilizer to local farmers to support agricultural production and mitigate rising costs. The initiative aims to provide a significant cost advantage to producers by subsidizing 50% of the unit price. While the market price is approximately 29 lira, the municipality is providing the fertilizer to farmers for 13.5 lira.

Mayor Mehmet Tahmazoğlu noted that the timing of the distribution is critical due to international uncertainties affecting supply chains. He highlighted that much of the fertilizer is imported and that geopolitical tensions, specifically between the US and Iran, impact petroleum-related supply chains and prices. Officials warned that prices could rise further in the coming month.

This fertilizer distribution follows previous municipal support programs, which included the provision of barley, wheat, lentils, corn seeds, and animal feed. According to municipal data, the total volume of agricultural support provided—including seeds, feed, and fertilizer—amounts to approximately 10,000 truckloads.
