Ahlat prepares for 955th anniversary of Manzikert Victory

Preparations are underway in the Ahlat district of Bitlis for the 955th anniversary of the Battle of Manzikert, which marked the entry of Turks into Anatolia. The celebrations are scheduled to take place from August 23 to 25 at the 150,000-square-meter Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Ahlat Millet Bahçesi, which includes the 1071 Sultan Alparslan Otağı.

The event site features Seljuk-themed decorations, a Han Otağı, and 50 thematic tents. Planned activities include mounted archery, horseback riding, wrestling, traditional crafts, and various workshops. Aerial displays by the Türk Yıldızları and SOLOTÜRK, along with helicopters, are also expected.

Bitlis Governor Ahmet Karakaya stated that the event will host President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli, government ministers, and thousands of visitors. Security measures and logistical preparations are nearing completion to ensure the festivities are shared across the region.
