Ahmad Sahroni calls for legal action in Ciputat school bullying case
Ahmad Sahroni, Vice Chairman of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), has expressed outrage regarding the bullying of 13 junior high school students at SMPN 10 Ciputat in South Tangerang. The victims were allegedly forced by seniors to consume a mixture of coffee, vinegar, and garlic at a shop outside the school premises. Three of the students reportedly required hospital treatment due to abdominal pain.
Sahroni is advocating for the perpetrators to be processed under the Juvenile Criminal Justice System Act (UU SPPA) to ensure they receive appropriate guidance and a deterrent effect. He has called upon the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, the National Police, and the National Commission for Child Protection to conduct a large-scale evaluation of the Indonesian education system to prevent similar incidents.
Furthermore, Sahroni emphasized the need for new approaches to bullying prevention through both formal and informal education within schools and families, while encouraging victims to report such incidents without fear.
