SMPN 10 Ciputat school bullying incident

Overview

Fourteen eighth-grade students at SMPN 10 Ciputat in South Tangerang were allegedly victims of severe bullying by senior students. The incident reportedly occurred at a food stall or coffee shop outside school grounds, where seniors coerced juniors into participating in challenges. If victims lost these challenges, they were forced to consume an extreme mixture containing coffee, vinegar, garlic, soy sauce, pepper, and saliva.

At least three students required hospitalization due to severe abdominal pain, with some reports suggesting victims vomited blood.

In response to the incident, Ahmad Sahroni, Vice Chairman of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), has called for the perpetrators to be processed under the Juvenile Criminal Justice System Act (UU SPPA). Sahroni emphasized that this would ensure appropriate guidance and a deterrent effect. He further urged the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, the National Police, and the National Commission for Child Protection to conduct a large-scale evaluation of the Indonesian education system. Sahroni also highlighted the necessity for new bullying prevention approaches through both formal and informal education within schools and families.
