Ahmed Touizi elected President of Morocco's House of Representatives
Ahmed Touizi, representing the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM), was elected President of the House of Representatives on Tuesday, October 13, 2026. Touizi secured 220 votes out of 369 cast, defeating his opponent, Idris al-Azmi al-Idrissi of the Justice and Development Party, who received 59 votes. There were 90 invalid ballots recorded during the election.
The election follows the legislative elections held on September 23, 2026, and marks a significant step in restructuring Morocco's legislative institutions. Following this vote, the House is scheduled to hold a general session on Wednesday, October 14, to elect members of the Bureau and chairs of the permanent parliamentary committees.
This leadership change occurs as the Authenticity and Modernity Party consolidates its influence within the state institutions, leading a government majority that includes the Istiqlal Party, the Socialist Union of Forces of Progress, and the Progress and Socialism Party.
