Ahmedabad hosts World Archery Para Series 2026

Ahmedabad is hosting its fifth international sporting tournament in six months with the commencement of the World Archery Para Series (WAPS)-2026 at the Sabarmati Riverfront. The championship, running from September 5 to 9, features 108 archers representing 19 countries.

Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi stated that the increasing frequency of international events reflects the expansion of sports infrastructure and the growing sporting ecosystem in Gujarat. He noted that the state has allocated Rs 66 crore for sports in the 2026-27 financial year and is developing an advanced Para Sports Training Centre in Gandhinagar that will utilize artificial intelligence and sports science.

Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah virtually launched the championship. Sanghavi also highlighted the success of the ‘Khel Mahakumbh’ initiative and expressed the state's long-term ambition to become a global sports hub capable of hosting the 2030 Commonwealth Games and future Olympic Games.
