Ahmedabad police bust interstate counterfeit blood pressure medicine racket

The Ahmedabad City Crime Branch and the Gujarat Food and Drugs Control Administration (FDCA) have dismantled an interstate racket involving counterfeit blood pressure medication. Following a complaint from JB Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals Limited, authorities identified the circulation of fake NICARDIA RETARD 10 (Nifedipine Sustained Release Tablets IP 10 mg) tablets.

Investigators seized approximately 1,200 strips of the counterfeit drug. Evidence suggests that over the previous four months, roughly 1,500 strips—equivalent to about 15,000 tablets—had already been sold to patients across various medical outlets in Gujarat. The counterfeit products used authentic labels, batch numbers (ACG25007), and packaging to evade detection.

Three individuals were arrested: Darshil Sanghvi of Ahmedabad, and Devendra Yadav and Umang Rastogi from Lucknow. The investigation revealed a supply chain spanning multiple states, with links connecting Ahmedabad to Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, and Jaipur, Rajasthan. Authorities are continuing to investigate the full extent of the distribution network.
