Turkey's Energy Efficiency Association warns of soaring AC electricity demand
Energy Efficiency Association President Ahmet Erdem said that rising temperatures and more frequent heat waves have sharply increased air‑conditioner use in Turkey, pushing daily electricity consumption to historic levels last summer. He warned that hotter summers ahead will further raise demand and stressed the need for energy‑efficient cooling.
Erdem advised consumers to choose correctly sized units with high energy‑efficiency ratings, CE certification, and favorable SEER and SCOP values. He also highlighted proper installation—placing outdoor units out of direct sunlight and ensuring adequate ventilation—and regular maintenance as ways to cut electricity use. The Turkish AC market has expanded to several million units in recent years, making efficient operation increasingly critical for the national power system.
