CIESA emerges as virtual buyer for AHMSA with $1.4 billion bid

CIESA (Construcciones e Ingenierías Electromecánicas) has emerged as the virtual buyer for the assets of Altos Hornos de México (AHMSA) and its subsidiary, Minera del Norte (Minosa), following a bankruptcy auction. The industrial group, represented by José Arturo Domínguez Arteaga, submitted a $1.4 billion bid to acquire the steel and mining complex.

The sale process has faced temporary delays. While CIESA was the primary bidder, the court noted that the company failed to immediately provide documentation proving the liquidity required for the $56.368 million security guarantee. Consequently, Judge Ruth Haggi Huerta García has granted a 10-business-day period for the bidder to formalize the deposit.

If the guarantee is met, CIESA will have 90 days to pay the remaining $1.344 billion. The receiver, Víctor Manuel Aguilera, indicated that the entire process could be completed in approximately five months. If successful, the new entity intends to operate as CIESA Desarrollo Acero, focusing on modernizing the infrastructure and prioritizing the payment of debts to over 14,000 workers and various Mexican state institutions.
