AI adoption rates rise in Hungary and Szeklerland
Recent data indicates varying levels of artificial intelligence adoption and attitudes across different regions. According to Microsoft’s Global AI Diffusion report for the second quarter of 2026, Hungary leads the Visegrád Group in generative AI usage, with 33.3% of the population aged 15-64 utilizing the technology. This places Hungary 20th globally, ahead of Poland, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia.
While adoption is rising, experts note that technology alone does not guarantee economic productivity; companies must also focus on workflow transformation and employee training. Furthermore, the Microsoft Work Trend Index reveals that two-thirds of workers fear being left behind if they do not adapt to AI, though 45% feel safer focusing on current goals rather than redesigning their roles around the technology.
In Szeklerland, a representative study conducted by the Sapientia EMTE Applied Social Sciences Research Center examined the attitudes of Hungarian high school graduates in Harghita and Covasna counties. The research, presented at the Maturandus Conference, found that a majority of these students support the regulation of artificial intelligence use. The study aims to understand how youth navigate digital transformation, climate change, and social inequality in a rapidly evolving world.
