The integration of artificial intelligence and digitalization in Hungary has progressed from theoretical and industrial discussions toward practical, consumer-facing applications.

Initial developments focused on professional industry conferences. In Budapest, the DigiTwin 2026 conference addressed AI-based design and generative AI in engineering and construction. Simultaneously, the ‘Business Order-AI Conference’ in Paks targeted small and medium-sized enterprises, focusing on implementing AI for marketing, corporate governance, and operational efficiency.

More recent developments show AI being deployed in service sectors, though with mixed public reception. In healthcare, a Budapest clinic is testing ‘Lara’, an AI-based digital assistant designed to confirm patient appointments. While intended to improve logistics, the technology has met skepticism from some patients, particularly older individuals concerned about potential scams.

Recent data indicates a significant surge in consumer adoption. According to the PwC Hungary AI Readiness Index 2026, daily AI usage among internet users rose from 42% to 71% within one year. While ChatGPT remains the most recognized tool, awareness of Google’s Gemini increased from 6.2% to 24.1%. Usage patterns show Hungarians frequently utilize chatbots for personal matters, translation, and interpreting medical results. In the financial sector, a Generali survey found that 23% of respondents have sought financial advice from AI, with another 27% open to doing so.

Despite this growth, professional integration lags, as 44% of respondents believe AI has no significant impact on their daily work tasks. Skepticism is also rising; 40% of people expressed reservations, citing concerns regarding the potential for AI to provide ‘convincing but false information’ and the risk of the ‘long-term degradation of human skills’.
