Agentic AI Foundation expands membership to drive open standards
The Agentic AI Foundation (AAIF), stewarded by the Linux Foundation, has expanded its membership to 247 organizations following the addition of 57 new members. Major enterprises including Alibaba Group, Visa, and Wells Fargo & Company have joined as Gold-tier members, each contributing $200,000 to support open standards for interoperable AI agents.
The foundation aims to establish shared infrastructure and open-source projects to reduce vendor lock-in, allowing AI agents to function across different tools, platforms, and industries. Current projects under its ecosystem include the Model Context Protocol (MCP), AGENTS.md, and the Goose framework.
In a related development, the CEO of Ant Group projected that agentic commerce—where AI agents act as interfaces between consumers and merchants—could drive rapid market growth within the next six to twelve months. The company has introduced a comprehensive agentic commerce platform and a cross-platform protocol system in collaboration with industry leaders such as Huawei, Oppo, Vivo, Honor, BYD, and Geely to build a connected ecosystem for AI services.
