AI-driven web traffic in Hungary grows 100-fold in two years

According to the AI Traffic Index report by JabJab Online Marketing, web traffic to Hungarian websites originating from artificial intelligence platforms like ChatGPT and Gemini has increased a hundredfold in less than two years. While these platforms accounted for only 0.01 percent of total traffic two years ago, they surpassed the 1 percent threshold by the summer of 2026.

News websites have seen the most significant surge, with traffic from AI interfaces increasing six to seven times over the last four months. This growth is attributed to increased information demand during spring elections and more prominent citations within AI responses since May.

However, the report highlights a concerning trend: the rise in AI-driven traffic has not yet offset the decline in traditional traffic from free search engines. Between April and July 2026, the additional traffic from AI covered only 4.7 percent of the losses incurred from search engines. This suggests that while AI tools are increasingly citing specific websites, they also tend to retain users within their own interfaces through summaries, reducing the need for users to click through to original sources.
