BDx Data Centers breaks ground on 640MW AI campus in Indonesia

BDx Data Centers has broken ground on its 640MW AI Campus 2 (CGK4) in Jatiluhur, West Java, Indonesia. The facility is designed to support high-density AI workloads using direct-to-chip liquid-cooling architecture capable of up to 500kW per rack. The first 120MW building is expected to enter service in early 2027 and is backed by 845MVA of grid capacity from PLN.

In response to the energy demands of AI, ABB has launched the Infinitus direct current (DC) portfolio. This technology aims to improve energy efficiency in data centers by utilizing 800 VDC distribution, which reduces heat loss and eliminates redundant conversion steps. The first DC-native facilities using this system are expected to be operational within two to three years.

Governments are also implementing stricter regulations regarding data center expansion. In Australia, the state of Victoria has banned data center construction in residential areas and mandated that facilities provide their own renewable energy. Additionally, the Australian Commonwealth Government is developing national standards that require 100% renewable energy for data centers.
