AI infrastructure faces growth concerns and power shortages

The AI infrastructure boom is facing new scrutiny as market concerns shift toward growth sustainability and power constraints. Cisco shares fell 4.5% to $106.44 after Piper Sandler lowered its price target to $125. Analysts expressed concerns that the rapid growth momentum in AI networking may be peaking, potentially leading to single-digit revenue growth in the future.

Simultaneously, the massive demand for computing power is creating a significant electricity bottleneck. Morgan Stanley analysts predict a US power shortage of 33GW by 2028, roughly 34% of the projected chip demand. This shortage is driving investment opportunities in 'powered shell' providers and 'behind-the-meter' power generation equipment. Companies capable of providing onsite power or utilizing existing grid resources to support data centers are expected to benefit as the industry seeks to bypass public grid delays.
