SubmitHub study finds nearly 40% of new music uses AI

A study by the music platform SubmitHub reveals that nearly 40% of new music released globally in July was created with the involvement of artificial intelligence. Using its SH Labs detection tool to analyze over one million releases, the study found that 23.2% of tracks were fully AI-generated, while an additional 15.3% contained AI-generated audio that was subsequently modified or processed by humans.

SubmitHub founder Jason Grishkoff emphasized the need for transparency, stating, “People should be able to decide for themselves whether they want to engage with AI-generated music.” The findings highlight a growing disclosure challenge within the industry.

In response to the rise of AI, various platforms and organizations are implementing new measures. Bandcamp has banned fully AI-generated music, and Beatport has also moved to restrict such tracks. The rights organization GEMA is utilizing AI detection tools following a landmark legal battle against the AI music generator Suno, which was found to be in breach of copyright laws in both Germany and the United States.
