AI involvement in global music production

Overview

A study by the music platform SubmitHub indicates that nearly 40% of new music released globally in July 2026 involved artificial intelligence. Analysis of over one million tracks via the SH Labs detection tool found that 23.2% were fully AI-generated, while 15.3% contained AI-generated audio that was later modified or processed by humans.

SubmitHub founder Jason Grishkoff (identified in later reports as Jason Grissom) has advocated for transparency, stating, “People should be able to decide for themselves whether they want to engage with AI-generated music.”

Industry responses to the rise of AI-generated content have varied. While Bandcamp has banned fully AI-generated music, other platforms are exploring labeling or restriction measures. Reports indicate that Deezer saw AI-generated tracks account for more than half of its new daily uploads in June, and Spotify has announced plans to introduce an ‘AI Persona’ label on artist profiles to assist listener identification. Beatport has also begun blocking fully AI-generated tracks at the point of upload.

Recent findings from the SubmitHub study highlight a significant discrepancy in disclosure: approximately 31% of tracks flagged as AI-generated by the detection system were identified by their authors or distributors as being created without AI tools.
