AIB Piemonte Volunteers Deploy to Calabria and Combat Fires in Piedmont

The regional mobile column of the AIB Piemonte volunteer fire brigade left for Calabria on 1 August, operating until 28 August. Based in Scalea, Cosenza, the unit works with local civil‑protection authorities, fielding 16 volunteers per shift, five operational teams and a coordination team, supported by five fire‑engine vehicles, a passenger van and a service truck.

In their home region of Piedmont, AIB volunteers have been battling extensive forest fires that have scorched over 900 hectares and destroyed roughly 700 000 trees. Their tasks include suppressing active flames, checking for hidden hotspots, securing slopes and restoring damaged forest ecosystems.
