Piedmont wildfire response

Overview

In mid‑July, the Piedmont regional government praised the volunteer AIB firefighting brigade for combating dozens of forest fires that had erupted since late June. Over 1,300 volunteers logged more than 8,400 operational hours, using hundreds of vehicles to fight 82 fires, ten of which remained active, and protecting hard‑hit localities such as Cravagliana, Premosello‑Chiovenda, Valprato Soana, Oulx‑Borgata Royeres and Valstrona‑Forno.

By the end of July, the same AIB Piemonte unit dispatched a mobile column to aid civil‑protection authorities in Calabria, operating there throughout August. Simultaneously, Piedmont crews continued battling extensive blazes that had scorched over 900 hectares and felled roughly 700,000 trees, focusing on suppressing flames, checking for hidden hotspots, securing slopes and beginning forest restoration.
