Aerospace Taiwan unveils Black Wing X UAV with domestic supply chain

Aerospace Taiwan has unveiled the ‘Black Wing X’ unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), a collaborative project developed alongside National Cheng Kung University. The initiative aims to establish a ‘non-red’ supply chain by integrating domestic research, academic, and industrial resources.

The development process involved more than 10 domestic companies, covering everything from initial research and airframe design to system integration. By involving local communication and power system suppliers, the project seeks to strengthen Taiwan's indigenous technological autonomy and reduce reliance on external sources.

The Black Wing X prototype was recently showcased at the Taichung AI Application and Intelligent Manufacturing Exhibition. Following the clarification of procurement needs from the Armament Bureau in August 2025, the team adjusted performance indicators to evolve existing research into this new product. The UAV is currently in the research, performance optimization, and testing phases to refine its flight capabilities.
