Taiwan UAV industry and defense technology development
Overview
Taiwan is expanding its domestic unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) industry and research capabilities through significant infrastructure investments and collaborative technological development.
The National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology (NCSIST) has inaugurated a new research facility in Chiayi and commenced construction on the Minxiong Aerospace and UAV Industrial Park. This industrial park, projected for completion in 2028, aims to host roughly 100 companies and bolster Taiwan’s position as an Asian hub for the democratic UAV supply chain.
In parallel, Aerospace Taiwan and National Cheng Kung University have unveiled the ‘Black Wing X’ UAV. This project utilizes a ‘non-red’ supply chain by integrating more than 10 domestic companies to enhance technological autonomy. The prototype is currently undergoing research, performance optimization, and testing phases.
